荷兰凤凰
本种的饲养较简单也需要植有绿色水草的水草箱里，并保留较大的活动空间。繁殖难度也不大，但水质要求较高。每次可以产下150～200枚卵。在29摄氏度中孵化率较高。开口饵料需要洄水或者丰年虾幼虫。喜食活饵但对冰冻饵料和人工饵料也能接受。荷兰凤凰非常不耐药品，对化学药品非常敏感。如果感染疾病将会非常麻烦。寿命约2～3年。

原產於委內瑞拉境內的奧莉諾科河系（Rio Orinoco）之Mikrogeophagus ramirezi--七彩鳳凰，經由荷蘭及德國的繁殖業者改良育種後稱之"荷蘭鳳凰"！也是因為這個典故，常有許多玩家們總是搞不清楚七彩鳳凰及荷蘭鳳凰的來龍去脈，其實荷蘭及七彩鳳凰是屬於一體兩面的品系

荷蘭鳳凰 跟 棋盤鯛 算是水草缸的最佳主角, 在太小的缸子養較不容易顯色, 而且容易因為水質不好而生病, 養在水草缸可就大大不同, 尤其在雄魚張鰭展耀時更是漂亮得沒話說, 這兩種短鯛都是平台式繁殖, 不同於一般短鯛需要甕或洞穴

南美短鯛 Dwarf Cichlids of SouthAmerican，早在19世紀就已經被歐洲人發現，並出口至歐洲做為觀賞魚種！一般來說，南美短鯛是泛指棲息於南美大陸的熱帶及亞熱帶地區，一種小型的慈鯛科魚類。大部分的南美短鯛其成熟個體的體長不超過10cm(4 inch)，喜歡在弱酸、軟水及低導電、低水流的環境中生活，擁有多樣的外型及多變的體色和光澤。

Controling algae in your aquarium

Controling algae in your aquarium:
- Avoid direct sunlight on your aquarium.
- Don't leave the lights on your aquarium on more than 8 hours. Six to eight hours of light is recommended.
- Keep nitrates, phosphates and silicates at a low level. If you have a persistent problem - use reverse osmosis (RO) or deionised (DI) water, or specific adsorption resins (e.g. PhosGuard). However, note that although high levels of such nutrients may encourage algae, it is not generally possible to completely eliminate algae by attempting to reduce them, as algae can survive at levels below those which can be measured by a hobbyist test kit.
- Consider adding algae eating fish

- Wipe off surfaces & vaccine gravel well
- Use silicate adsorbing resin in the filter
- Increase the lighting
- Stock a plecostomus or several otocinclus

The Cycle Completed!!

Our 30-gal and 6-gal tanks finally completed the nitrogen cycle. It was great to see the Nitrite tester reading 0. The process took us about 2 months (with numerous mistakes we made).
